Ford F-150: 2024 More gear and minor visual changes

The Ford F-150: 2024 has been around for three years, which is difficult to believe, but partly because the Blue Oval has regularly released variations of its best-selling truck during the past two years. Early in 2021, the upgraded Raptor made its debut, followed by the all-electric Lightning and the supercharged V8 Raptor R. With its focus shifting back to the big stage; Dearborn unveiled 2024 F-150 this evening in anticipation of the 2023 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Even though the most popular car in America won’t get a significant redesign until 2024, and minor visual changes will be made, this mid-cycle upgrade has made the truck much better. The basic engine now has greater power, hybrids are more affordable, the tailgate has several functions, all variants will come with onboard power supply systems, and BlueCruise is now more widely accessible. A bigger gasoline tank is among the once-desirable upgrades that became standard after those improvements.

The Raptor and the somewhat more off-road focused (albeit not nearly as extreme) F-150 Tremor have received a few minor modifications. All of this is meant to keep the F-150 far ahead of its competitors from GM and Ram, and the PowerBoost hybrid’s democratization is a reaction to Toyota’s somewhat-new Tundra, which underwent a facelift last year.

Under the Hood

Although one engine has left the lineup, Ford will still have the most available powertrains in the full-size truck class. The 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 will replace the 290-horsepower 3.3-liter non-turbo V6 engine that powered the standard F-150s last year, starting in 2024. Few will overlook the 3.3.

This engine was a $1,285 upgrade in 2023, so even if the introductory price of the F-150 increases somewhat, it will still be worthwhile. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost’s 325 horsepower and 400 pounds of torque significantly improve over the 3.3’s 290 and 265 pounds. Additionally, the 2023 specifications increase the basic model’s maximum towing capability from 8,200 pounds to 10,100 pounds. (All of the technical details for 2024 are not yet available.)

Additionally, Ford has revealed that the 400-hp, 510-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will now cost the same as the optional 430-hp, 570-lb-ft 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid powertrain. The Hybrid cost over $2,000 more than the EcoBoost in prior years. Ford’s hybrid F-150 sales increased by 28.1% in the first half of 2023. Thus, it stands to reason that lowering the price of the hybrid would increase sales. The 5.0-litre V8 option will remain available.

Despite the lack of a chart outlining every possible towing arrangement, Ford claims that the maximum towing capability of the 2024 F-150 will unexpectedly drop from 14,000 pounds to 13,500 pounds. Still, that’s the best in the class.

Portable Power, Transformable Tailgate

The Pro Power Onboard power supply of the contemporary F-150 is one of its most well-liked features. The technology, a lifesaver in many natural catastrophes over the last three years, will now be installed on all F-150s. The 2 kW previously accessible to pure gas-powered cars was unavailable to 3.3-litre versions in 2023.

According to Ford, this configuration is sufficient for significant tailgate parties and light labour. However, the Hybrid versions provide additional power for those who want it, with a 7.2-kW unit available as an option and a 2.4-kW system as standard. The Hybrid’s initial allure included this capability. Therefore, the new cost for that model will increase access to it.

According to the manufacturer, a mobile metal/welding shop or dirt-bike shop may run on the 7.2 kW Pro Power configuration for up to 32 hours. That will be helpful if you want to use one as a support vehicle for the Baja 1000. Ford believes monitoring power use with an upgraded digital interface will be more straightforward.

The new Pro Access multi-function tailgate is one feature that can help if you’re packing up the bed with a dirt bike. Although this design isn’t nearly as ingenious as the one seen on the GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado, it still has much going for it.

The door is a broader version of the F-150’s slide-out bed step that fits into the larger tailgate. It has fixed openings of 37 degrees, which helps access the bed. At the same time, a trailer is hooked up at 70 degrees, which is beneficial for general access in a tight spot, and 100 degrees, which helps load or haul long planks. The Ford 1500’s dual-mode tailgate seems more practical than the Ram 1500‘s.

Customers may choose the now standard storage cubby on either side, behind the rear wheel wells. The aperture of the Pro Access tailgate may likewise be used to cover a portion of the bed and create an easy-access “trunk” with bed dividers and storage bins.

Technical Updates

The upgraded digital interface for Pro Power is just one of the technological upgrades for the 2024 F-150. 5G LTE connection, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 12-inch central touchscreen running the most recent version of Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment software are now standard. Thanks to this connection, the system can now receive updates automatically over-the-air. Users have the option to turn off these updates, although few do.

Ford claims that more of its optional assistance features, such as Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, will be available on a more extensive variety of F-150s in 2024. This is even though Ford hasn’t increased the number of healthy active safety systems on the F-150. The truck that has been modified will also be the first Ford car to come with the automaker’s Stolen Vehicle Services feature, which can be accessed via the FordPass app and helps find and recover stolen vehicles.

Additionally, owners may outfit the F-150 with Ford’s BlueCruise 1.2, the most recent iteration of the company’s cutting-edge hands-free driving technology. Ford has altered the way that buyers may purchase it, and it can now do autonomous lane changes. After taking advantage of the system’s 90-day trial, consumers may decide whether to activate it monthly or yearly. Granted, it’s a backdoor to turn this into a membership business, but flexibility nevertheless.

Raptor & Tremor

The off-road-themed Tremor receives a more aggressive visage and visual distinctiveness than in past years, perhaps making it the butchest-looking ordinary F-150. Running boards and unique inside stitching complement the more aggressive face, and all in all, the Tremor seems a bit more special than it did before when it was more likely to be confused for a humble FX4.

Upgrades for the Raptor and Raptor R are at the top of the range; they come with new FOX Dual Live Valve shocks and an optional new front bumper. Ford claims this more aggressive-looking face increases room for installing popular extras like light bars and exposes more of the Raptor’s optional 37-inch all-terrain tires. Most Raptor improvements are forged tow hooks, updated aesthetics packages, and a new color, Shelter Green Metallic.

2024 Ford F-150 When and How Much Be?

Starting at $38,565, the 2024 Ford F-150 will come with a hefty $1,995 destination cost. That’s an almost $3,000 hike from 2023, but considering the additional standard features and the rising cost of practically every vehicle, the increase isn’t all that significant. Apart from the enhanced basic engine, standard features now include the long-range fuel tank and Class IV tow hitch, formerly popular extras. The top-of-the-line F-150 Raptor R will go for $111,550.

The order books for the 2024 F-150 will open on Wednesday in conjunction with the public days of the Detroit auto show, which will please those desiring to purchase one. From Wednesday through September 24, enthusiasts may visit Detroit’s Huntington Place to see the new vehicles up close.
