About Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche established the storied sports car manufacturer in 1931 as an engineering and consultancy business with headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Porsche created the Type 1, often known as the Volkswagen Beetle today, in response to a request from the German government to provide a straightforward and affordable automobile for the general public. Regarding the exact origins of the Type 1, there is significant debate. Many people attribute the initial design to Béla Barényi, a renowned engineer and inventor who created technical drawings of a “people’s car” in 1925, more than ten years before the Beetles’ 1938 debut. The Porsche 64 racecar’s debut in 1939, which most Porschephiles believe to be the first automobile to carry the Porsche brand, is undeniable. Only three models, two still in existence, were made using modified Beetle hardware.

Porsche’s professional path led him to the Chairman’s office at Volkswagen, where he remained until the conclusion of World War II when the Allies took over the plant as part of the post-war occupation. Later, Ferdinand Porsche’s son, Ferry Porsche, created the Porsche 356 prototype. The legendary 356 is regarded by most as the first Porsche production car. It was first produced with an aluminum body in small quantities before changing to a steel body variant.

Porsche now focuses on producing high-performance sports cars, sedans, and SUVs. In an exciting twist of the family tree, Porsche AG is owned by Volkswagen Group, whose biggest shareholder is Porsche Automobil Holding SE. The two automakers have long had a tight connection; they worked together to develop vehicles like the Porsche 914 and Volkswagen Beetle and cars like the Porsche 64. However, the German automakers didn’t legally combine until 2015.

The famous 911 sports car, available in a variety of trim levels, the entry-level mid-engine 718 coupe and convertible, the Cayenne and Macan SUVs, the Panamera sedan, and the fast all-electric Taycan sedan are all produced by Porsche today.
