About Genesis
The third-largest manufacturer in the world, Hyundai Motor Company, is situated in Seoul and has a worldwide luxury subsidiary called Genesis. Before becoming its brand in 2017, the Genesis moniker was initially used on a Hyundai-badged sedan. A low-slung two-door fast coupe from Genesis was introduced in 2010 after the four-door Genesis went on sale in 2009. The Genesis had a facelift in 2015 that offered a more sophisticated and beautiful appearance and feel, but American buyers didn’t react as anticipated. After Excel was introduced in the late 1980s, Hyundai fought valiantly to shake off its reputation for low quality. Still, despite a turnaround that saw awards for several of its cars (including the Genesis, named North American Car of the Year in 2009), buyers weren’t willing to fork over $50,000 for a Hyundai. Due to this, it was decided to create a distinct brand identity for Genesis and segregate the luxury automobiles from the parent corporation.
A new Genesis G80 became Hyundai’s Genesis, and the bigger sedan, the Genesis G90, replaced the Hyundai Equus. The Genesis G70, a sporty small luxury car, debuted in 2019 and quickly gained favour with reviewers. Except for the doors and roofs, the G90 underwent a considerable update in 2020, heralding a new design ethos based on “athletic elegance” and “horizontal architecture.” In contrast to the previous model, which had a more subdued style, Genesis is now boldly shown on the back. A complete complement of active safety features is now included as standard equipment in the new G90, along with a large infotainment screen that uses modern technology.
Soon, a high-end SUV will be added to the lineup of sedans, which is a positive development.
