The 2024 Polestar 2 is basically an all-new car.
The Polestar 2 fastback, as the high-performance electric vehicle manufacturer refers to, went on sale in 2020. Still, Polestar is already giving it a makeover that goes far beyond the usual cosmetic improvements you get in a new car after a few years.
The 2024 Polestar 2 is no longer front-wheel drive, starting with the drivetrain. It is now rear-wheel driven with a new permanent magnet motor and silicon carbide commutator. The new engine delivers a much higher power output (299 hp, up from 231 hp) and more torque than the old engine (361 lb-ft, 243 lb-ft). It now accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, an improvement of 1.1 seconds.
If you choose the AWD model, you’ll get 421 horsepower and a 0-60 mph sprint time of 4.3 seconds; if you add the optional Performance Pack, these numbers go to 455 horsepower and 4.1 seconds.
A larger 82kWh battery is also being added to the long-range, single-motor Polestar 2 vehicle for the 2024 model year, with an anticipated range of 300 miles. According to EPA estimates, the twin motor model, which has a slightly smaller 78kWh battery, should be able to transport you 270 miles in a single trip. For example, all long-range car variants have an 82kWh battery in Europe. However, the U.S. versions of the vehicle vary slightly from those in other locations.
The single motor type can now charge at a maximum of 205kW D.C., another improvement to set. Last but not least, the carbon emissions per automobile have decreased from 7 to 5.9 tons due to the new batteries’ enhanced cell chemistry.
Even the included equipment has been updated, with the long-range, dual-motor version in North America receiving the Pilot Pack(Opens in a new tab) set of safety measures and the Driver Awareness features.
Only the Polestar 1 hybrid and the Polestar 2 are now available from Polestar, Volvo’s performance E.V. sub-brand; the Polestar 3, a mid-size SUV, is expected to go on sale later this year. With these extensive modifications to the Polestar 2, the manufacturer is probably not in a rush to introduce another small hatchback-sedan combination (or fastback, if you will).
Polestar.com (Opens in a new tab) is now accepting orders for the 2024 Polestar 2, with prices starting at $49,800 for the long-range, single-motor model and $53,300 for the long-range, dual-motor model. Deliveries will begin “later this year,” according to the business.
Arriving soon: Updated versions of Polestar 2
The Polestar 2’s blend of technology and style has garnered three awards from its owners in the 2022 Auto Trader New Car Awards alone. Your vote evidences its popularity for it as Luxury Electric Car, Beloved Car, and New Car of the Year. However, Polestar isn’t resting on their laurels; Several improvements will enable him to travel further, faster, and more safely than ever.
Headlines include changing the Single Motor versions from a front-mounted to a rear-mounted setup for improved performance and handling, more horsepower for all different configurations, and substantial improvements to the Enough. The Polestar 2 launched the Volvo range incredibly well, especially for the models with the most extensive battery options.
Polestar Thomas Ingenlath Co
According to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, “Often in the automotive industry, offering superficial cosmetic modifications frequently defeats the original intent of the concept car’s design.” “We’ve updated seethe electric drivetrain’s initial technological and mechanical elements rather than just making cosmetic changes. The Polestar 2’s design is also its best yet.
The only immediately noticeable exterior changes are a blanking plate that replaces the grille and houses a so-called “smart zone” for cameras and sensors to improve safety systems that now include automated braking and cross-traffic alert to standard blind-spot warnings and interventions. In addition, a wireless phone charger is now a need for the entire group.
In the automotive industry, the tensile often make minor cosmetic changes. Single-engine vehicles accelerate faster thanks to mechanical improvements and a new rear-wheel drive design, which shaves nearly a second off the 0-62 mph time and boosts power on both versions. Standard and Long-Range Batteries Due to a modest increase in battery size, the officially stated range for the latter has also improved by more than 50 miles to just under 400 miles.
Another improvement over the two-engine car was immediately decoupling the front engine when not required and delivering more balanced power to the rear for better handling. This contributes to an increased range of approximately 370 miles and a more enjoyable driving experience. For those who still want more power, there’s still the option to boost the performance’s 476 horsepower from the standard 421’s twin-engine output, either at the time of purchase or after that as an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade.
The overall CO2 impact of creating the vehicle has been dramatically reduced thanks to improved manufacturing techniques and new technology from Polestar so that customers can enjoy all that extra performance with a clear (or at least a cleaner) conscience.
Among mid-tier electric cars, the Polestar 2 has occupied a bit of a niche, but it keeps becoming more and more competitive and alluring. The maximum range increases to 300 miles for 2024, the 0–60 mph time decreases to as little as 4.1 seconds, and single-motor variants are now rear-wheel drive.
Polestar 2 Price in 2024
The Polestar 2 should launch in 2024 at a price of around $50,000. The 2023 model’s starting price is $48,400.
In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 has a starting price of $44,000 and a range of 272 miles as of 2023. This is in the same price range as the brand-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan (361-mile range). The starting price of the BMW i4 sedan in 2023 is $52K, and it has a 300-mile range as well.

Will Polestar 2 be able to get the federal tax credit in 2024?
Because the Polestar 2 is made in China, it is presently not eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit offered to select purchasers of certain electric cars. But when renting a Polestar 2, that credit could be available. On January 1, 2023, new regulations went into force, including price limitations, income criteria, and no doubt further modifications.
What Changes in 2024?
The 2-wheel-drive variant switches its motor from the front to the rear, giving it a longer range, greater power, and faster charging. All models get a revised front end that swaps out the more conventional grille with a “SmartZone” panel that holds a camera and radar parts. The Long Range Dual Motor model now comes standard with the Pilot Pack of driving assistance technologies, and wireless phone charging is available throughout the whole range.
Performance, Range, and Charging
The Long Range Single Motor variation now boasts a range of 300 miles, which is 28 more miles than the base model Tesla Model 3 and 30 more miles than last year. This improvement comes from a new electric motor and an improved battery. A maximum range of 270 miles is possible with the long-range dual motor with all-wheel drive.
Since there isn’t a Standard Range Polestar 2, we’ll just use the terms single motor and dual motor to describe them.
It used to take about 30 minutes to charge the lithium-ion batteries of either model from 10% to 80% using a DC fast charger. Although it should be faster now that the Single Motor’s DC charging capacity has been increased from 155 to 205 kilowatts, Polestar has not yet provided a timeline.
We don’t anticipate this to vary much from the eight hours it now takes for a 240-volt residential system to recharge completely.
The Single Motor’s new electric motor produces 299 horsepower and 361 lb-ft more torque than the old one did. Rear-wheel drive gives a sportier feel than front-wheel drive, so it has been relocated from the front to the back.
When the front motor is taken into account, the output of this vehicle is increased to a significant 421 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. The same motor also powers the all-wheel-drive Dual Motor variant. The Performance Pack increases horsepower to 455 (also available as an over-the-air upgrade).
Polestar adjusted the two motors so that they have more of a rear-drive feel and set them up so that the front unit can shut off when not needed but can quickly turn on when required.
The single motor needs 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, which is brisk but unspectacular. With the Performance Pack, the Dual Motor completes the task in 4.1 seconds, which is more exciting.
Driving the Polestar 2 in 2024
The 2024 Polestar 2 is ready to go once you get inside. Simply shift into drive, and you’re off (after fastening your seatbelt and making sure the area is safe, of course).
The Single Motor version’s rear wheels are now receiving 299 horsepower. This is a nice upgrade over last year’s model, which was lacklustre and lacked the kind of immediate, exhilarating acceleration that electric cars are known for.
We found that setting brake regeneration to low and steering responsiveness to standard gave a nice fundamental configuration for everyday driving. Preferences and circumstances may differ. However, the Polestar 2 adds one-pedal driving to the mix when the brake regeneration is set to maximum.
Simply releasing the pedal will cause the car to slow down and possibly come to a halt. Excellent for manoeuvring around a succession of turns in a smooth flow. All-wheel drive’s extra power and improved traction are reserved for the Dual Motor variant.
Both models feature finely adjusted suspensions that provide a balance between comfort, composure, and control.
The front edge of the roof may descend somewhat too far, depending on the height of the driver, blocking off objects like traffic lights. However, the view out the rear may need some enhancement.
The headrests on the back seats are always visible in the rearview mirror, and the rear window is fairly tiny. A camera-based mirror would provide a sharper and more thorough perspective of what was behind.
What about the inside
The furnishings of Polestar are specifically designed to be vegan-friendly. However, high-quality, authentic Bridge of Weir leather is also offered. This Scottish business sources its hides from ethically reared, grass-fed animals and avoids using chrome in the tanning process. It’s top-notch material; other clients include Aston Martin and Jaguar.
The Polestar 2 is a rather small spacecraft. The front space is thus quite spacious, but the back legroom is just 34 inches, which is not very much. Additionally, the cargo space, which increases from 13.7 to 38.7 cubic feet, is disappointing.
Additionally, the Polestar 2 includes 1.2 cubic feet of storage space under the hood and 1.4 cubic feet of underfloor space under the cargo floor.
Although an optional heat pump may not seem intriguing, it really reveals more about how Polestar functions. By drawing warm air from the powertrain and distributing it into the cabin, a heat pump may increase range while reducing the load on the climate control system.
